This project was the result of an RIAS millennium
award. I researched and explored a number of early sacred sites
on Skye, culminating in this exhibition. The work seeks to express
the essence of each particular place as it is now.

| 'I saw a little well
in Kilbride, in the south of Skye, with one trout only in it. The
natives are very tender of it and although they often chance to catch
it in their wooden pails they are very careful to preserve it from
being destroyed. It has been seen there for many years.'

According
to Adamnan, St.Columba visited Skye in 585 and 'stayed some days',
whilst here he is said to have had an encounter with a wild boar which
he is reputed to have killed solely by the 'efficacy of words'. At
that time 'there were some thirty places of worship in Trotternish,
besides many monasteries dedicated to the saint'. History
of Skye by Alexander Nicolson 1930. |
